Job: Parliamentary Groups Manager
MR Sport is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with an interest in politics and sport to support our portfolio of Parliamentary sporting Groups. For the right candidate, this will be a fun, challenging and rewarding position.
About MR Sport
Founded in 2008 with a focus on sports advocacy, we are a small, dynamic and growing team. We support a number of All-Party Parliamentary Groups focused on sport. You will be working directly with a highly supportive and motivated CEO.
Role Main Duties
Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a number of All-Party Parliamentary Groups focused on sport. You will:
- ensure full compliance with Parliamentary Rules
- ensure Group records/data are kept up-to-date
- liaise with MPs, Peers and their offices
- implement programme of meetings, events and other activities
- liaise with Parliamentary bodies as needed
- maintain positive relationships with Group, government and sport stakeholders
- provide policy research, briefings and counsel to the Group as needed
- generate written material to appear in public
- maintain the Group’s online presence: website, social media
Personal Key Skills, Attributes and Abilities
The role requires a varied skillset and personal attributes as, ultimately, you will be operating with minimum oversight. Training and support will be provided. The successful candidate will be:
- An effective oral and written communicator, you will have excellent interpersonal skills with the diplomacy, gravitas and tact to engage diverse senior audiences to instil confidence and credibility.
- A strategic thinker, you will have strong analytical skills, with the ability todigest and assimilate complex and detailed information and present or explain succinctly.
- You will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to continually evaluate and prioritise multiple objectives, tasks and time.
- Creative, adaptable, and effective under pressure you will be solutions-focused with the ability to pre-empt and diffused potentially difficult issues.
- Good administration skills with outstanding attention to detail.
- Self-sufficient and able to work independently with minimal guidance.
The following would be advantageous:
- A passion and understanding for sport
- Strong IT and social media skills (including experience in WordPress, google sheets, twitter, LinkedIn, mailchimp)
- Living in or close to London
- Degree in Politics, Communications, Public Relations, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of UK Parliament, government and policy structure and processes
- Commercial acumen
Travel and Time Commitment
We run a virtual office, so location is flexible. However, you will be expected to travel to and from Westminster so this role would likely suit someone based in London or South East England. A laptop and phone can be provided but you may use your own should you wish (security and backup software will be provided).
This may be a full-time or part-time role (candidate dependent). However, there will be times when you will be required to operate outside of normal working hours – such as evening meetings or events for Parliamentary Groups, or attending sporting events at weekends. These will almost always be known well in advance.
