Deal Rowing Club discuss coastal rowing in Parliament

Last night (6 December) Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Amateur Rowing Club made a presentation to a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Rowing in Westminster.

Representatives of the club made a presentation focusing on coastal rowing, and were joined by MPs and Peers, as well as individual associate members, other rowing clubs and organisations.

Speaking after the meeting, Group Co-Chair and Member of Parliament for Hendon, Dr Matthew Offord MP, said “it was a pleasure to welcome representatives of Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Amateur Rowing Club to Parliament and hear about efforts to develop coastal rowing in their area. Coastal rowing is clearly an exhilarating experience, and clubs on coastlines across the country are doing some fantastic work to develop this community of rowers.”

Group Co-Chair Lord Thomas of Gresford added “much of the Group’s focus has historically been on flat-water rowing, yet there are many coastal rowing clubs across the United Kingdom that provide opportunities for people to enjoy different formats of the sport. It was great to hear more from Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown about the particular form of sliding seat coastal rowing that they provide, and I hope that the Group will be able to continue to support them and all coastal rowing clubs.”

William Darlington from Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Rowing Club said “it was an honour to meet with Members of Parliament and Peers in Westminster and discuss coastal rowing. Our club has enjoyed some considerable success in recent years, and we look forward to providing even more opportunities for people try coastal rowing in the future.”
