British Rowing to support All-Party Parliamentary Group for Rowing

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Rowing has announced that British Rowing has agreed to become a supporter.

The Group, comprising Members of all major political parties and from both Houses of Parliament, has the singular remit to “support the sport of rowing both within Parliament and outside” and meets regularly when Parliament is sitting.

All-Party Parliamentary Groups do not receive public funding and are often reliant on supporters to enable activities.

British Rowing is responsible for the development of rowing in England, both indoor and on water, and the training and selection of rowers to represent Great Britain. British Rowing aims to lead, enable and inspire excellence at all levels, and promote the positive impact of rowing for all. Great Britain recently finished top of the rowing medal table for the third successive Olympics with three golds and two silvers, 13 medals each for the men and women’s squads. The para-rowers will be next up in Rio as they take on the world at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Dr Matthew Offord MP, Group Chairman and Member of Parliament for Hendon, welcomed British Rowing’s support. He said, “I am pleased to announce British Rowing has agreed to support the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Rowing. British Rowing do excellent work to promote the sport across the country, and the recent success of Team GB at the Olympics illustrates that we are the world’s leading rowing nation. The Group is determined to help develop the sport even further, and British Rowing’s support will allow the Group to tackle issues central to rowing.”

Andy Parkinson, Chief Executive of British Rowing, added “we are very pleased to support the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Rowing, and look forward to working closely with Members as they seek to support the sport at all levels. British Rowing works hard to promote opportunities for all to get involved in rowing but some challenges remain. I hope our support will enable the Group to provide a strong voice for rowing in Westminster, Whitehall and beyond.”
