All-Party Parliamentary Group for Motorsport: Statement on Proposed Northern Ireland Round of the World Rally Championship
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Motorsport is disappointed to be informed that there will be no UK round of the World Rally Championship for the third year running after efforts to secure an event in Northern Ireland for 2022 failed.
The APPG had been working alongside Parliamentarians from all parties in Westminster, Northern Ireland, and beyond, to secure the round.
The UK hosted the World Rally Championship consecutively since 1973 until 2019 and has been an important part of motorsport at all levels – internationally and regionally. The continued absence of a UK round from the global sporting calendar represents the loss of a significant opportunity for the UK.
The APPG for Motorsport will continue to make the case to Ministers and officials across all relevant government departments to secure a UK round of the Championship in 2023.
